2nd National Steering Committee Meeting

The main purpose of the National Steering Committee (NSC) was to drive the project in the proper directions on all components and aspects with a proper stakeholder contribution. The second NSC of the Water Supply and Sanitation Improvement Project (WASSIP) was held on 28 June 2016 from 10.00 a.m to 12.30 p.mat the Auditorium of the Ministry of City Planning and Water Supply (MCPWS). The Chairperson of the NSC was Mr. N. D. Hettiarachchi, Secretary MCPWS followed by Mr. D. M. C. Dissanayake, Additional Secretary (Admin and Finance), Mrs. L. Mangalika Additional Secretary (Technical) in the same Ministry. Ms. Ranjini Nadarajapillai, Secretary, Ministry of Hill Country New Villages, Infrastructure and Community Development too attended the NSC. The composition of the NSC was,

  • Department of External Resources
  • Department of National Planning
  • Plantation Human Development Trust
  • National Solid Waste Management Support Center, Ministry of Provincial Councils & Local Government
  • World Bank Colombo Office
  • Ministry of Plantation Infrastructure Development
  • Ministry of Irrigation
  • Department of Project Management and Monitoring
  • Ministry of Health Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine
  • District Secretaries – Mullaitivu, Kilinochchi, Nuwara Eliya, Badulla, Monaragala, Kegalle, Ratnapura
  • Provincial Councils – Sabaragamuwa, Northern, Central and Uva
  • National Water Supply and Drainage Board

The main output of the NSC was improved communication among stakeholder organizations, finding a land for septage treatment, discussion about payments for community mobilizers and Public Health Inspectors, getting community contribution from Mulaitivu and Kilinochchi.
